Online Audio Training Program

Now you can get over 25 years of training expertise Online, from Basic to Final Mix using our specially developed training software.

From the 1st April you will be able to register for this training program (and this is no April Fools joke).

The start date of the training program is the 7th May 2018.

NOTE: We will be taking a limited amount of enrollments to ensure good student/teacher response time.

The Online Training Program is broken into 3 sections each designed to take 6 months to complete, should a student complete the section sooner they will be able to move on to the next section. For those with limited time you get 1 year to complete the section.

Section 3

The hardest Section to teach online has always been section 3, as this section must be very interactive between student/teacher, well now this problem has finally been fixed using Ankha's specialized software that you will receive.

What also makes teaching this section hard online is that the student requires an in-depth knowledge of audio for them to understand the techniques they will be taught in section 3, this is the reason that our training program has 3 sections with the first section being the most crucial in basic audio knowledge.

For both modules 2 and 3 the student must have a file hosting account (recommend Dropbox) as you will be constantly uploading and down loading music trax.

The students will have access to their own group chat rooms and can arrange private chat sessions with their lecturer. In section 1 the student will be subjected to spot quizzes, online tests and written tests.

The students pays R650 per section being studied and has access to all the study material, lecturer help and assistance for that section for 12 months.

If you want to get access to this training program or want additional info then call us or sms your email address to +27(0)829399082 or message us here or go to our facebook page here and message us.

The first section covers these topics:

Section 1 (Basics)

a) Basic Principles of Sound
b) Digital Audio (Sample Rate, Bit Depth)
c) Acoustics, Boundary Effect, Acoustic Coupling
d) Sound Fields, Phase/Phase Shifts/Standing Waves/ Inverse Square Law
e) The Audio Spectrum (complete breakdown of the audio spectrum, frequencies and ranges)
f) Filters and Equalizers (different types and what they do)
g) Microphones (Types and Microphone Techniques)
h) Loudspeaker Systems (Types, Setup and Uses)
i) Dynamics (Compression, Multi-band, Limiting)
j) Effects (Delay, Reverb, Flange, Phase, Distortion etc.)
k) System Interconnections (Balanced/Unbalanced Lines, Grounding, Phantom Power, Passive and Active Systems,
Crossovers, Amplifiers, Speaker Connections/wiring/phasing)
l) Mixing Consoles (analog and digital theory and operation)
m) Digital Audio Work Stations (DAWs)

The main purpose of this section is to provide the student with all the fundamental principles so that they understand the terminology used in sound, how the individual components function and how they are used and final combining all the components into a fully operating audio system.

This training program has been designed to get the student up to speed in a short space of time by eliminating unnecessary technical jargon or math equations and giving the explanations in an easy to read format combined with our own training videos.

After every few sections the student will be required to complete a written examination which they can submit online, these exams are there to help assess the student's progress and point the student where to revise in any weak areas found.

Final Exam

To complete the training program the student will be required to write 1 final examination which will cover all topics in Section 1. On passing this examination the student will receive an original printed Inhouse Audio Training certificate of their achievements and marks achieved for each subject.

Work Opportunities

On completion and passing of Section 1 the student will have the knowledge to work in a studio or the live sound environment and have the basic knowledge to setup their own studio or live sound company.

Section 2 (Intermediate)

This section is a more advanced and practical section and includes specialized software written by Ankha to help with your practical understanding of the subjects.

a) Psychoacoustics (How we perceive frequencies ranges, critical bands, Fletcher Munson curve and monitoring levels)
b) Advanced Dynamics (How to use dynamics in a practical situation, what to look out for etc.)
c) Advance Ear Training (Here you use Ankha's specialized software to teach you how to accurately recognize all the frequency ranges in the audio spectrum, no more guessing what is wrong).
d) Equalization Techniques (Here you will learn basic equalization techniques and how to select the right filter (shape/slope) to fix your problem)
e) Effects (Here the student is taught how to apply the correct effect by considering different factors in the mix or the mixing environment)

Work Opportunities

After completing this section the student will have sharp audio ears and be able to do good rough mixes using different equalization techniques and apply the correct dynamics and basic effects. The student should be able to do an acceptable Front Of House mix or Monitor mix and will make a good, skilled assistant engineer.

This section has written examinations to assess the students progress and will also have a final written examination. On passing this examination the student will receive an original printed Inhouse Audio Training certificate of their achievements and marks achieved for each subject.

Section 3 (Advanced)

Here the student is taught to mix and master audio practically by downloading music tracks specially recorded for teaching students how to mix and master.

a) Ankh'a Advanced Equalization Techniques: (Here you learn Ankha's advanced equalization techniques and how to apply them using downloaded music with all the separate files, eg kick, snare, hats, etc. The student will be required to mix these tracks and then upload them for evaluation. Each track the student mixes will have a specific purpose of making them recognize the problems in each track and how to apply the correct equalization/dynamic techniques to correct the problem.
b) Your Own Tracks: Once you have mixed the tracks we give you, it's time we help you mix your own tracks. Here you will need to upload a rough mix of your track and we will then ask you to mix sections of your track, for example, just the drums mixed or drums, bass and keyboards mixed.
c) Production Techniques: This is the section that puts the cherry on the top. Here you learn the techniques of making your mix come alive by using subtle psychoacoustic techniques
Mastering: Here we show you how easy it is for you to master the dark art of mastering and it all rests on how well you have learnt to mix. Never have another problem of trying to get your tracks to sound clean, clear and punchy. Here again you will receive specialized software that Ankha has written that will help you get the most out of a mix.

Work Opportunities

After completing this section the student should be able to do very good audio mixes either in studio or live and will be able to master audio to acceptable levels without the sound hurting our ears.

They can be recognized as sound engineers and be able to secure positions at studios as final mix engineer or at live sound companies or any other media company (radio, TV, video etc.)

This section has no written examinations all marks are given on the mixing/mastering we receive from the student. On passing this examination the student will receive an original printed Inhouse Audio Training certificate of their achievements and marks achieved for each subject.

The only real difference between hands on training and doing this online is that you will get some latency between question/answers and evaluating your mixes.
